Noticing Sensory Imagery

23 Sep

Quick Write: Look back to your goals you wrote about on the first day of school (September 9th or 10th). What are some small actions you can take everyday to help move forward towards achieving these goals?

Sensory Imagery

Sensory Imagery: descriptive language that uses any of the five sense (sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch).

Our five senses are how we experience the world.  Without them, how would we know what is going on around us?  How would we even know anything is going on around us at all?

Describe the input your five senses are receiving to help your reader understand what it was like to experience what you are writing about.

Quick Write: In your notebook, spend the next two minutes noticing anything you can see, smell, hear, taste, or feel.

Sensory Imagery Activity

Come up with three descriptions, using sensory imagery, for each the the following scenarios. Use as many of the five senses as you can.

The stadium was crowded.

The cookies are delicious.

The beach was beautiful.

There is so much traffic on the Long Island Expressway.

My alarm is going off in the morning.
