Work on Anthem Piece

20 Apr

Quote of the Day:

“We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim.” -Elie Wiesel

Further thoughts on the topic, from Seth Godin’s blog:

Not voting leads to an outcome as much as voting does. You’re still responsible, even if you didn’t actively participate.

In any situation, not stating your opinion allows things to move forward. Silence is not nothing, it is still an action.

No sense hiding, from yourself or anyone else.

The Anthem Piece

By now you should have found a way to identify yourself. Potential examples: I am high school student, I am a student athlete, I am a (insert sport) player, I am a dancer, I am a musician, I am an artist, I am a son/daughter/brother/sister/friend, I am an angry teenager, I am a confused teenager, etc .

In your notebook, write some of the things you know. Refer to our example piece. Notice how specific the writer is, even referring to actually people by name and situations that occurred.
