Writing Piece Due Wednesday plus Important Dates

Writing Piece Due Wednesday June 4th

Our next writing piece is due on Wednesday June 4th.  Please keep in mind that blog posts are the equivalent of tests in this class.  They should be fully developed writing pieces.  A number of students have received low grades on blogs because they were short and under developed.  (If this is you, you can revise them!).

Periods 1, 2, 5, 6:  Write about a challenge or difficulty you have faced within your blog topic.  I will be looking for you to emphasize the emotional impact and an effective lead.

If your blog is about a softball for instance, many readers won’t be able to relate to what it means to go 0-3 while batting, but they can relate the related emotions: disappointment, frustration, anger, nervousness, letting other people down… Emphasize the emotional impact.

Also, I will be looking for an effective lead.  We’ve discussed many ways of creating interesting beginnings to our writing (start somewhere besides the middle, start with action, mystery, etc), this time I want to start with emotion.  Begin with the highest emotional point. Get the reader to connect with the emotions you are going through.

Period 8:  Create a story using any 5 of the vocabulary words we have covered in the last two weeks.  Your story should also include a wild animal and a crime.  I will be looking for you to emphasize the emotional impact and an effective lead.

Feel free to get as creative as you like with your story, but pay special attention to the emotional impact in your writing.  What are the characters feeling? What are the emotional highs and lows?
