Farewell North!

20 Jun

The final Calvin and Hobbes comic - Imgur

Well, if you read the last post, then maybe you won’t miss the irony in this one.  Mr. Funk has been transferred back to East.  So if you are looking for me, that’s where I will be.  My email is the same, so if you need anything (like letters of recommendation) contact me there.  bfunk@sachem.edu .  As far as portfolios go, after Friday I can’t guarantee anything.  I will take ones that I think will serve as good examples to future students to East and the rest I will leave in A108 where they will live until someone gets tired of looking at them.  If you want it back, I recommend getting it no later than tomorrow.  I have no control over their fate after tomorrow morning.  Otherwise, you can email me and if I have I can get it back to you,  but no guarantees!

I wish you all the best, I had a great two years here at North and the biggest reason is the students.  Thank you guys and good luck 🙂

Final Portfolios are in A108

18 Jun

First let me say that I had a great year and I blame that on you guys 🙂  Thanks for being so open to my unusual teaching approach and willing to go along with me on new experiments.  I have grown tremendously as a teacher and a person, and part of that is your fault 🙂  I wish you all the best of luck.  Juniors, don’t be shy to stop by and say hello next year.  Seniors, all the best to you, congratulations on graduating, and if you are in the building come see Mr. Funk.

In all honesty, talking with former students and seeing where they wind up in life is one of the great joys of being a teacher.  When I first came to North, I lost that opportunity with my students from East.  But now, after two years here at North, it is starting to happen again and I am thrilled about it.  So don’t be a stranger!

Your Final Portfolios are available to be picked up in A108, by the window.  Please get them ASAP, after Thursday they may not be available to you.  All in all they were amazing.  Portfolio time has always been my favorite time of the year.  You guys showed so much pride in your work that this year was no different.

Have a great Summer!

-Mr. Funk

Final Portfolios are Due Friday!

2 Jun

Our final portfolios are due Friday June 7th.  This is the biggest assignment of the year.  It counts as your final exam grade, which is 20% of your course grade.  Think of it this way: If you have an 80 average for the first 4 quarters, not doing this project will drop you to a 60 and you will fail for the year!  I know you’d never do that, but it’s worth mentioning 🙂
