Work for the Week

12 Dec

Here’s a summary of what we are doing for the rest of the week…

11th Grade:

Character Sketch Piece- describe a character using the three methods of characterization (words, actions, descriptions).  Show don’t tell!  Have your story take place somewhere and use that situation to develop your character (ex: you and your character are on a long car ride together).  This is due Friday, typed!

Read pages 59-61, 63-66 in Catcher in the Rye.  In about half a page in your notebook, write about what Holden is doing and what we learn about his personality based on his actions (characterization).

12th Grade:

Social Commentary Piece- write about an issue or problem within our culture, society, or people in general. Give examples and state how these examples are indicative of a larger social issue.  (ex:  Someone bumps into you in the hallway and says “Hey watch it!” This could be used to comment on the rudeness of people in general). This is due Friday, typed!

Read pages 107-113 in The Road.  In about half a page in your notebook, write about what happened and whether or not you think they acted in the right way.  The Man and the Boy claim they are “The good guys,”  do their actions support this?  What would be the right thing to do?
